Mattel @ Toy Fair 2020
So I woke up this morning, and booked it to the New York Times building. Why? Well yesterday I discovered Hsabro was holding their Toy Fair exhibit off site. I got a number from someone in PR and tried calling twice, I emailed Hasbro, nothing. So I figured I’d try my luck and show up.
I got there, showed my official Toy Fair New York press credential, and my photo ID. NO DICE. Was told “People make these appointments a year in advaaaannnccceee” eye roll.
C’mon Hasbro, you can’t take the Ghostbusters license and pull this!?!? Oh well, I booked it to the Javits center to get to Mattel’s influencer event. I scheduled nothing in advance, just showed up. I got there with 10 minutes to spare, and I was told to get in quickly and get what I can by this super polite woman out front.
I ran in and shot the baby Yoda toy right away. I feel like everyone’s got a piece of “The Child” this year and it’s awesome. I went to the back to check out the new Master of the Universe toys, and they look so cool. You can see my pics in the gallery below.
The lady that let me in, guided me to the Jurassic World and WWE area. I shot some cool pics and talked to the man at the WWE section about the retro figures. I was told they’re NOT dead, and they WILL BE BACK!!!! Also about the MOTU WWE figures, there are more coming and they might not always be Walmart exclusives.
When I left they gave me a bag of stuff, the Ken Doll being my favorite. He’s got long hair, a tie dye tank and jean shorts. He’s ready for the next music festival. There is a Creatable world doll kit, which had various accessories to let you create your own characters. There is a new Uno game called Uno Flip. Each card has a light side and a dark side, the light side plays like classic Uno and the dark side has “Way tougher penalties” A Draw 1 on the light side becomes a Draw 5 on the dark side. Very cool concept. There is a hot wheels and a Jurassic World Snap Squad Indominous Rex. Thank you Mattel for being so RAD!! Check it out in the Gallery below, and listen to the upcoming RAD YEARS PODCAST to hear all about our two days at New York Toy Fair.
