New Spin Masters Batman Forever Toys at Target
Last Night I was at Target, because what else are you going to do on a Monday night in the middle of January in a northeast PA suburb? I was in the toy aisle because I’m on the hunt for a new Mattel Elite Dusty Rhodes figure because I can’t pass up on a Dusty, and that was a bust and while walking out of the aisle to go pick up my boring adult things like toothpaste and mouthwash I noticed a Batman Forever Robin figure. I checked behind him on the peg and there was a Batman, a Riddler and a Two-Face. These looked like an homage to the Kenner figures. I only bought the Robin, because had to, but I took pics of all 4, let’s compare to their Kenner Counter Parts.
First Up. The Riddler
on the Left is the new SpinMasters Target Exclusive Riddler, on the right is the ‘94 Kenner Riddler
So the figures look VERY similar, Spin Master was clearly trying to replicate the mold of the original Kenner figures, the new figure is missing the “Trapping Brain Drain Helmet” massive plastic accessory that almost no kid ever played with. As far as Box are the illustration on the new Spin Master version looks much more like Jim Carrey, while the Kenner looks more vague, and usually its because they put these figures into production WAY ahead of the movie, so Kenner probably didn’t have a lot to work with. Kenner would release later version of Riddler figures that were much more movie appropriate but I like this one the best.
Next Up TWO-FACE!
the Spin Masters Target exclusive Two-Face on the left, the Kenner Two-Face is on the right.
I’m just now noticing the even matched the name font on the two packages. These figures are very similar, but the Spin Masters one looks more like Tommy Lee Jones, so does the illustration on the card art. That is th only advantage this figure has as the pain is not as good as the Kenner figure, it doesn’t come with his trademark coin or the Turbo Charge Cannon. The accessories I dont care much about but they could have given him the hand gun and the better paint job, it’s 2025, 30 years in technology and we get a shittier paint job? Up Next Batman
same as the other two above
So now that I’m looking more closely at the Spin Masters figure, I might go back and buy him tonight! Kenner didn’t put out a figure that looked like this as far as I can tell and this is the actual suite he wears in the movie. The closest one I could find was the two pack of Batman and Robin. This Spin Masters figure wins this as it also has the cloth cape not the molded plastic cape. Finally, the figure I did buy, Robin!
DITTO
Again, the Spin Masters Robin wins this one, hands down! That’s why I had to buy this figure. The card art is awesome, figure has an actual cloth cape, and the CORRECT MASK AND R EMBLEM, unlike the Kenner Figure who has who knows what emblem on his chest. So It’s a toss up, Kenner always does Villains better anyway. What do you think of these new figures from Spin Masters? Are you gonna pick any of them up? There also is a Batmobile but my Target didn’t have it. I’m gonna go back tonight for that sick Batman though. -RK
