We're gonna be LIVE AT RETRO CON 2017
You heard that right. The Rad Years podcast is hitting the road and we're driving to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, in Oaks PA to do a live, 1 hour Rad Years podcast at Retro Con.
This will be my third retro con, and Squeezer's second. Last years Squeezer met me there with his family and we walked the grounds. The con itself is a blast! My first year I was just in awe over how much stuff there actually is. It took me a while to see everything thing, then you go back and see everything again. All sorts of vendors selling you back pieces of your childhood. Toys, action figures, video games, collectables, art, you name it, they have it.
Year one I bought two things related to Pee-Wee Herman. I bought a mint in box, talking Pee-Wee doll from Matchbox in 1987, still had the Kiddie City logo price tag on it, and for only $80 bucks!! I also bought a signed copy of "Inside Pee-wee's playhouse" by Caseen Gaines. He personalized the autograph, and was super nice. It was a great experience and I couldn't wait to go back.
Year two, last fall, I went back for my second Retro Con, and met Squeezer there, but before he got there, I took in some of the vendors. The time traveling toy dealer himself Zombie Sailor was in the house with the raddest case fresh action figures you'll ever see from the 90's and 80's. (He confirmed with me that he'll be back this year)
I took in a panel with The Million Dollar Man himself Ted DiBiase, and he was a really delight. He told great stories about almost losing the Million Dollar Championship belt and having to "Get through" his match with Virgil. It was a great panel. Afterwards squeezer showed up with his family and the whole group had a great time. It really is a family friendly event.
Our tentative "performance" is set for Saturday October 14th from 10:30-11:30am. AND, as a special treat, we will be joined by the Cybertronic Spree. A band the cos-plays Transformers and performs music from the Transformers cartoon movie from the 80's. Below I posted a video of them, in costume, performing "The Touch" from the Transformers soundtrack. Make sure to come out on October 14th and see us live. It'll be a lot of fun and a day you won't forget.
