Being Sick in the Summer

Being Sick in the Summer

So if you noticed a little bit of cough and flem in my voice on the latest podcast, it's because I'm sick.  It's not too bad, but there is nothing worse than having a cold  in the summer.

I remember getting a really bad cold one summer, I was probably 11 so lets says it was 1993.  My mom tried to combat it with her entire arsenal of grape Dimetapp which was delicious and paired nicely with string cheese.  There was orange Triaminic, which I don't think they even make anymore and that was my 2nd favorite because it tasted like the syrup you put on an orange snow cone, it was literally that good.

If my cold persisted though, there was only 1 thing my mom could do.  Take me to the doctor, where I would get a gross sugar free lollipop, but I would go home with a bottle of the good stuff.  That's right, the bubble gum flavored liquid gold that was amoxicillin.  It was a cold, pink, milky, bubble gum flavored gold.  This stuff was seriously the only upside to getting sick and going to the doctor.  Nowadays, medicine all tastes pretty gross.  While I was choking down some liquid Musinex, Enchantress commented that it couldn't be that bad.  I gave her the cup and she had the smallest possible tasted and was immediately grossed out.

There was another smaller upside to being sick in the summer, it gave you a legitimate excuse to not only sit inside all day, but eat all the popsicles you could possibly want.  My diet was entirely popsicles.  Breakfast; popsicles, lunch; popsicles, dinner; MORE POPSICLES!  I'd watch shitty daytime TV, which usually meant watching The Price is Right.  I posted an old one below so we can watch together.

Do you have memories of getting sick in the summer? let me know in the comments below
