25 Days of Cereal Day 10: Honey Maid S'mores Cereal
When I was a kid in the 80’s there was this delicious cereal called “S’mores Crunch” from General Mills” It was on of my favorite cereals ever. It was basically Golden Grahams, which is pound for pound a top 5 cereal ever made, with a chocolate flavoring mixed into the pieces and marshmallows. They discontinued this cereal in the late 80’s and there wasn’t another s’mores cereal until 2003 when Kelloggs released SMORZ cereal. That was okay, but it wasn’t until last year when the last of the big three took a stab at it.
Post bought the bagged cereal company called Malt-O-Meal. They had a bagged s’mores cereal, but also a boxed Madagascar cartoon themed s’mores cereal which were both the same thing. Post used their co-branding with Nabisco (read oreo, chip-a-hoy, nutter butter) to re-brand the Malt-o-Meal cereal into a Honey Maid S’mores. This is when the world took notice. Good branding works people.
When you open the bag, FINALLY I got what I was expecting…. a HUGE graham smell. Like opening a bag of Golden Grahams only you know there are extra special treats in there with it. I poured a bowl and it looked like everything was coated with a sugary dusting. I tried it and really enjoyed it. This is the first cereal since “S’mores Crunch” when I was a kid to live up to the S’mores name.
