25 Days of Cereal Day 1: 2017 Cinnamon Vanilla Winter Lucky Charms
Last year, General Mills released two winter holiday cereals, one of those was Cinnamon Vanilla Winter Lucky Charms. The Marshmallows were winter themed and the oat pieces were cinnamon vanilla flavored. I say were because this looks like a 1 year only deal, if you didn’t get them last year, they’re gone for good! I grabbed two boxes last year, but never opened them, but today, for you guys, I popped one open. The sell by date on the top of the box was August 2018, but I figured it was still good, and it was.
The box art is pretty cool, and there is a nice message on the bottom of the box, using a regular Lucky Charm marshmallow as an emoji of sorts. General Mills re-used it for their chocolate version they put out this season which I’ll review as we get closer to Christmas, but for being year one, this is pretty cool artwork.
I opened it up, and pulled the bag open and didn’t really get a cinnamon smell at all, kind of a vanilla but more of a typical Lucky Charms.
I poured a bowl and had a few dry pieces, still no real cinnamon flavor. Threw some milk on it and dug in.
FINALLY I could taste the cinnamon, and it was a good flavor. Pretty similar to Lucky Charms though. Enchantress and Olive also tried it, both gave it a seal of approval. The marshmallows carried all of the vanilla flavor, and the bowl looked pretty winterlicious.
Lucky Charms is a staple of the cereal world. The reason the Holiday/Winter versions are so important may be something you don’t realize.
When I was a kid, my mom generally didn’t buy sugary cereals for us. There were some on occasion, but they were rare. When Ralston put out a themed cereal of an IP we loved (Ghostbuters, Batman, Batman Returns, TMNT), she would buy us that cereal. She normally wouldn’t buy us Lucky Charms, but even she couldn’t resist candy cane marshmallows in Holiday Lucky Charms. I still love holiday themed cereals to this day and always will
I’ll give these a final grade of
3 out of 4 Calling Birds.
Come back tomorrow and EVERY DAY up to and including Christmas Day for a new cereal review.
