Halloween Comics: House of Secrets #144

Yesterday was another Comic book Wednesday and what a whopper of a comic book day. Not only did we get a new issue of Absolute Batman, we got Miles Morales: Spiderman #2, Kevin Smith (yes that Kevin Smith)’s Spider-man/Hulk Fire and Brimstone #2, and The Muppets take on the Marvel Universe written by Adam F. Goldberg of “The Goldbergs” Fame! I got a lot of different covers of each book and if you think that’s a lot holy hell wait till next week. The Amazing Spiderman #1000 releases with 28 different covers, and I’m gonna try and get em all!.

Onto this week’s spooky comic book The House of Secrets #144. These are a series of comics that are hosted by Able, who’s brother Cain host’s the companion book “House of Mystery”. If you’re a Sandman reader, you know Able and the House of Secrets. This issue has 3 main stories in it. The first one “The man with death on his shoulders” is about a pipsqueak who won’t stop hitting on beautiful women even though they want nothing to do with him, often leading to their boyfriends to whoop his ass. So he has the ghost of a muscle guy to grant him powers of the strongest man in the world, but he’s still a fucking pipsqueak. He goes and gets his revenge on a bunch of the guys who stopped him from harassing their girls, but thats not enough. He sees a beautiful blonde and wonder why she’s with him, so he confront them and the guy says he doesn’t want any of pipsqueaks shit, so the PS (pipsqueak) punches him and kills him. The woman seems to pass out so he takes her and hides in an abandoned mine. Lightning strikes the opening and the cave starts crumbling on them, but he holds up the support beam and tells her to get help, she wanders out of the gave and just as she does a man stops and picks her up, it’s he doctor, and she wonders why her friendly male nurse would leave a deaf and blind girl all alone. PS IS LEFT TO HOLD UP THE CAVE AND NO ONE IS COMING TO HELP HIM. He lasts 5 days until he gives up.

Then there is an ad for Hostess cupcakes where I think Wonder Woman is fat shaming. The cover story is about a true vampire painting thats killing men and the last story is pretty good, but it won’t spoil it. Seek it out and read the book! It’s a good one.

This is the series that birthed Swamp Thing, it’s pretty fun! These are the little things you can do during the Halloween season to help put you in the mood. When you dont want to go anywhere or buy anything or watch another movie or TV show. Read a fun spooky comic!
