The Great Allentown Fair

Labor Day weekend has come and gone as has the official last day of summer. Meteorological summer ends on September 1st, but Astronomical Summer ends with the Fall Equinox, so we still have 2 weeks or so till that happens. Every year this is when they hold the Great Allentown Fair here in my part of the world. It takes place at the Allentown Fairgrounds which is home to the Agriculture hall which was a famous early WWF and WWWF venue. (Google Jimmy Snuka murder).

Both myself and Squeezer were working on site in our capacity for television, so I had some time to wander the grounds and though I found very little Halloween things, I was able to list 3 of them below, but first a photo gallery to see what the hell this fair is all about.

#1. The Best in Show Fish Tank

Every year I go to the back of Ag Hall to check out the fish tanks. I have no idea what the criteria they are judged on so if you know, let me know, but this years first place and best in show was this Halloween set up below. With a headless horseman and it’s floating jack-o-lantern head, the jack with the big mouth as a cove for lil fishies and a spider with a snorkel on. Again, I don’t know how these are judged but this was the best in show in my honest opinion.

#2. Pumpkin Spice Peanut Butter

As I was walking around Ag Hall for some AC (summer may be over but it’s still fucking hot in the Northeast) I saw some lady selling flavored peanut butters. I’m such a sucker for anything Pumpkin Spice so naturally I had to grab some. This isn’t life changing but it’s not bad either. It would be great, shmeared on some raisin bread. The lady was really sweet and gave me the employee discount because I had my video badge on. It was a good find in a sea of people asking me if I need my gutters or windows replaced.

#3. Pumpkin Funnel Cake

This is it, the reason to go to the fair every year. The Pennsylvania Dutch Donut stand makes these Pumpkin Funnel cakes an covers them in a cinnamon glaze, PLUS you can get it in a mini size. I couldn’t even finish the mini size so you know I’m not getting a full size bastard. This was delicious and amazing and rich. These little tastes of Halloween are hard to look for but sometimes are right there at the fair on a 82 degree September day.
